What is the definition of violence?
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines violence as "the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community that either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment or deprivation." What is the “Multifaith Walk Against Violence”?
A physical and spiritual journey: a move to unite Canadians against all forms of violence, including wars, terrorism, gangs, bullying, domestic violence, child abuse, and elder abuse.
Why are they walking?
To create awareness about the dangers, and the consequences of using violence to resolve conflicts. The concept of the dignity of life, “Save a life, save humanity”, is sacred to all faiths and brings us unity. Also, to provide an opportunity for all religious groups to join forces for a worthy cause, to learn from each other and to influence, not only Canadians, but the whole world to eradicate all forms of violence for a peaceful, beautiful world.
When will the “Multifaith Walk Against Violence” begin?
On April 20, 2008 from Halifax and is expected to end in Victoria , B.C. by the end of November, 2008.

Where We Were &
Where We Want to Be:
Walking for Justice 2008
Although aboriginals comprise a mere 3% of the Canadian population, Amnesty International has reported about 500 missing and murdered aboriginal women to date. The majority of these cases are unsolved - and some have argued that they are largely uninvestigated. It has also been argued that even more cases of missing aboriginal women and children go largely unreported.
On June 21, in a move to advocate on behalf of these missing and murdered women, Gladys Radek, a member of the First Nations of the west coast, will begin the Walk for Justice - walking from Vancouver to Ottawa on Parliament Hill. When Ms. Radek arrives in Ottawa, she will be presenting a petition to the authorities. Gladys expects to be in Ottawa on September 15, 2008 to present the walk4justice2008 petition. They plan principally to address the Prime Minister, Mr. Stephen Harper and Mr. Chuck Strahl, the Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs.
Gladys Radek has made a request to the public to sign a petition online here
